The Long and Short of it

I bought 2 of these wide format deep cradled canvases for some reason. I like the size and shape, however the cradle is 2" deep.  The canvas feels strange because it is so deep and it is very heavy.  It will sit securely on a shelf or a mantle without a frame.  I will paint the sides dark, either black or dark brown stain.
I painted this from a photo I took last summer in the University of Memphis area.  It is a neighborhood very much like the one where I grew up, not very far away. It will soon have a companion piece painted from a photo taken in the same area.

Slice of Light

I painted this in Leiper's Fork, Tn last fall while attending the Tim Horn workshop (timhornart.com).  We painted outside all week. This window caught my eye between two buildings right on the main street through town.  It needed a little work back in the studio because the light was changing so quickly.
