The Long and Short of it

I bought 2 of these wide format deep cradled canvases for some reason. I like the size and shape, however the cradle is 2" deep.  The canvas feels strange because it is so deep and it is very heavy.  It will sit securely on a shelf or a mantle without a frame.  I will paint the sides dark, either black or dark brown stain.
I painted this from a photo I took last summer in the University of Memphis area.  It is a neighborhood very much like the one where I grew up, not very far away. It will soon have a companion piece painted from a photo taken in the same area.

Slice of Light

I painted this in Leiper's Fork, Tn last fall while attending the Tim Horn workshop (  We painted outside all week. This window caught my eye between two buildings right on the main street through town.  It needed a little work back in the studio because the light was changing so quickly.
